Kitchen Case Study: Kingsey Kitchens

Kingsey Kitchens Case Study

As seen on Channel 4's Best Laid Plans

Extraction, storage and kitchen shape are challenges that every Kitchen Studio faces when designing a customer’s perfect living space. For some projects, these challenges are more complex than others and that was certainly the case when a client with a very unique brief approached Studio Partner, Kingsey Kitchens. Coupled with the added pressure that the finished kitchen would end up being featured on TV, this was certainly a challenge that Kingsey Kitchens rose to, and the result was simply stunning.

Freedom of Colour

When Kingsey Kitchens’ client, Janice, entered their Buckingham-based showroom, she was captivated by the framed kitchen in the corner of the showroom. As an artist, Janice was used to working with colour and wanted the freedom to reflect that in her kitchen. After exploring the showroom further, Janice was impressed with the quality of the kitchens and the fact that she could choose any colour. In the end, Janice chose Little Green French Grey 113 and Kingsey Kitchens also arranged for their paint supplier to match a colour that Janice had mixed herself for the island unit.

Overcoming the Storage Struggle

The brief from Janice required as much storage as possible but with the unique shape of the kitchen, this involved some creative thinking and innovative solutions to ensure that as much space was created as possible. With worktop space limited and not allowing for a microwave, which Janice had requested, Kingsey Kitchens built this appliance into the kitchen island. The island had also been designed to include a cupboard for the end of the worktop that had folding doors as well as being shaped at the back to take account of the curve of the building. Janice also wanted to incorporate some of her wooden reclaimed fruit boxes in the design, which featured perfectly in the end of the island. The finished kitchen also included a spice rack, pull out tray storage, a bin and corner unit.

Extraction

Janice’s flare for colour was demonstrated in her choice of a beautifully bold Smeg cooker in red. The cooker itself brought its own challenge – extraction. Due to the shape of the kitchen, traditional ceiling or wall extractors were not possible, which left a downdraft as the most appropriate alternative. Janice was initially sure that she wanted a gas cooker, which was not compatible with a downdraft, but after being shown the induction alternative, she changed her mind – a decision Janice was very happy with as it proved so easy to clean.

A great use of storage and reimagining of space, this beautiful kitchen was featured on Channel 4’s Best Laid Plans. Ideas for Living Studio Partner, Kingsey Kitchens, created this living space by taking inspiration from the client’s vision, meeting the criteria set by the brief, and using their expertise and experience to overcome every challenge they faced.
